Entry II: The Wither Ensnares Us

In book: Wither Journals

The Wither takes many forms: gasses, liquid, and the Smog, as we know the great gas to be. Solidity is moreso embedded in a living creature… which is perhaps more terrifying than a great brick of Wither would be.

We have concluded that liquid is significantly more pure than gasses, which is why Light is so powerful against liquefied Wither. This determination means the Smog must be what is protecting Raydes from disntegrating from the warm sun itself… as long as the Smog has coverage, it can keep Withered safe. Likewise, caves and the underground is likely a heavy breeding ground for spreading Wither…

Our plants, from our previous entry, eventually disintegrated due to the Wither. They could no longer withstand the Wither that it was producing; it was consumed. The plant itself dissolved; the remaining Wither from within a pool around it, forming a sticky, residual puddle of Withered goo. I hate to imagine what pure Wither would do to living creature: would it melt it down once its body could not sustain it?

We have been brought ill subjects that are thought to be infected with the Wither. First, a cluster of Mushbuns… all sick, vomiting darkness (which we now identify as liquefied Wither), with paled colors. They were found in a bog in Reeding, of which has had reports of hostile creatures, irrational Faians, and mysterious occurrences as of late…

The Mushbuns were not likely dead, and revived. They show much different appearances than the plant—they do not produce liquefied Wither (other than in bile). They are, naturally, have a nastier temperament, but we cannot blame them for discomfort.

The Mushbuns have been nursed with Light. As we hypothesized in our last entry, the Wither cannot survive in the Light. It cleared from them within a few days—however, a larger creature might need more time.
