A Fated Picnic

“Heyy, Sagittarius~!!!”

Sagittarius, the ruptour in question, looks up at its name being called from where they had been strolling with their manxre Fornax. A pink tortuvina zooms towards them at a speed most tortuvinas are not seen traveling at. It’s their friend Eirlys, a wicker basket and sqovet in hand- er, wing.

Sagittarius gives a smile in greeting as Eirlys touches down to hover. A tilt of the head- What is she doing here?

“I was on my way for a little picnic with Plum here-” Said sqovet has somehow manifested a pillow to sit on, where did that come from?- “And I spotted you from above! Oh please say you’ll join us, it’s been a long while since we’ve seen each other!”

Sagittarius has no qualms with this idea, and nods in agreement. After a moment of deliberation, the two decide the spot they are in is already a good area for their picnic. A salmon coloured picnic blanket is spread out over the grass, and a curiously minimal meal is pulled out of Eirlys’ basket. A large cake, decorated with pink frosting and flowers- a fitting theme for the tortuvina- and a tea set with two tea cups included. Sagittarius tilts their head at the picnic questioningly.

Eirlys flutters her wings happily as she pours mint tea for herself and the ruptour. “It is quite silly I brought two tea cups when we didn’t have this planned, isn’t it? Hehe, I can’t make sense of that… Maybe it’s fate we found each other today~” 

Sagittarius exhales from its nose in amusement. Eirlys’ unpredictable and frivolous nature is predictable to him in a comforting way. They settle down on the blanket with Fornax while Eirlys continues to chatter.

“The cake I got from a market in Ballater- I was so surprised to see such a lovely item there! No offense to Ballater of course, it’s just such a different environment you know.” She nudges her teacup towards Plum, who does not seem interested in drinking from it. “I really am so glad we ran into each other! I hardly see other travelers as often as I see you.” A happy chirp. “Anyhows, how have you been doing?”

Sagittarius nods their head and shakes their paw lightly. Pretty well, so-so. Not done much but travel to take in the sights and the usual small helpful tasks they get up to. They gesture to Fornax, indicating they had been strolling and looking for interesting things to collect with the manxre.

“Ahh, so nice! We ought to trade trinkets sometime. I found some comet shards the other day that I’m quite excited about, I think you’d like them too…”

Eirlys’ conversation is cut off by a loud buzz and the sound of a chomp. The two creatures startle and take a look at the source. A chombee had pulled a chunk of the cake off to shove into its mouth! Sagittarius’ eyes narrow slightly as Eirlys gasps in amusement. He knows this chombee.

“Haha, how cute!! This is the little guy that follows you around, isn’t he?”

A nod in agreement. The chombee, dubbed Void Eater- not by Sagittarius- has made a habit of following the ruptour around to bum off it and steal its food. Many mistake the chombee for a pet, Sagittarius lightly considers it a pest and a freeloader.

Eirlys giggles more at the sight of the chombee and Sagittarius’ slightly irritated ear twitch. “Ah don’t worry about it Tari, there’s plenty of cake left for us still~ Hm, though I did forget to bring a knife…Perhaps we should make like Void Eater and use our limbs to eat!”

Sagittarius smiles lightly at this notion and shakes its head. He’s okay without cake, not preferring to get frosting caught in his paws. They watch Eirlys give a shrugging motion and dig in with a wing. 

They feel Fornax cuddle close to their side for a nap, and try to still their motions for him. They glance around the area of the Olive island a bit while Eirlys chats about everything and nothing, enjoying the nice Spring day. Their life may be rather mundane these days, but he doesn’t feel he’d trade it away for anything else.
