rooftop misadventures

"Duskie, you don't know how to fix a roof."

I can still try!

After climbing up to the top of a roof and seeing the absolute damage that the meteor left on it, Duskie... realizes he has no idea how to fix a roof.

But well- he offered! Who offers to fix a roof and then just backs out like "Sorry, actually, I don't want to fix your roof, I changed my mind!"

"... Duct tape. Try taping the roof back together."

"Do you have any duct tape?"

"Sure!" The house's resident tosses a roll of duct tape right into Duskie's paws, and Duskie exhales in relief. He grabs a random piece of rubble and starts to tape it back to the roof.

"Huh, this random piece of rubble sure is shiny."

It is! It's nice and sparkly like a meteor! Duskie thinks back, taping the random meteor chunk to the roof of the house. Although, it's not really... fitting with the rest of the rooftop? He takes a moment to take a bite out of the duct tape, before grabbing another bit of rubble and taping it back on. I think I know how to fix a rooftop!

He duct tapes another random piece of rubble and beams. The rooftop looks as if brand new- that, and if someone stuck a lot of duct tape onto it, of course!

"I did it! I fixed it!" Duskie leans in to the makeshift rooftop cover and- falls right in.

CRAP, THEY'RE GONNA KNOW I'M NOT ACTUALLY A REAL ROOFTOP REPAIRCAT NOW!

"Does anyone here even know what a cat is!?"

Duskie takes a stressed bite out of the meteor piece he taped to the roof. ... Tastes like meteor... His eyes widen in realization. I TAPED A METEOR TO THE ROOFTOP INSTEAD OF AN ACTUAL PIECE OF ROOFTOP

"Are you alright?" The resident asks. "... You're not really well-versed in this, are you?"

Duskie nods.

"It's ok, neither am I. This house is from my father- he built this entirely for fun, can you believe that? If only he were around to fix it..."

"... You're not mad at me?" Duskie asks.

"More paws are better than less. You did a good job for someone inexperienced. I think if you don't lean against the cover next time, it'll be just fine." The resident says. "Here, I'll help you."

Duskie jumps back out to the roof. The resident hands Duskie pieces of rooftop through the hole, allowing Duskie to duct tape those back on.

The final piece is less handed and more squeezed through, and it's a miracle Duskie manages to grab it.

"Hey!" Duskie says. "My name's Duskie! I hope you have a good Cometfall, and well... if you ever want to talk to me again, just go looking for me! I'm a lot of places!"

"Of course!"

With that- and a "Goodbye!"-, Duskie tapes the final rooftop piece back into place and hops off, gilding back down to the ground to continue looking up at the comets above.

This month is gonna be great! Duskie thinks, and his brothers agree.
